Drishti Compost:

Sustainable Food Waste Solutions

We are a Virginia Beach non-profit organization dedicated to educating and promoting composting. We partner with local schools, farmers, houses of worship, and residents to build a better green waste management system for our community. Too much food is wasted, and American soils are unhealthy. Composting offers a solution to both of these growing problems.

Our "Drishti" (a Sanskrit word meaning an intentional focus) is to make long-term changes in the green waste industry. Green waste means organic, or compostable products. Composting is a beautiful process in which food waste is not wasted; but instead recycled and reused to grow healthier food. By composting food scraps instead of sending them to landfills, we create nutrient-rich compost that enriches the soil for growing new crops, thus completing the food loop. This approach minimizes waste, reduces environmental impact, and fosters the regeneration of a healthier eco-system. Better soil means healthier food, and healthier food means healthier humans.
